Hotel Cretan Park

This beachside hotel comes with a stylish pool and a lazy river. There’s plenty in the way of entertainment, too.

The Cretan Park has a sandy beach on one side and rolling countryside on the other. Its gardens are home to a big pool, and there’s a lazy river, too. Tennis and wine tasting top the daytime list of things to do.

Besides the main buffet restaurant, there are Greek and Italian à la cartes. After dinner, the hotel puts on live shows. Plus, Malia’s 24-hour party scene is just a 20-minute walk away.

Been there 13 times now, and every time has been wonderful.

It's not only the beautiful gardens, the comfortable rooms and the pools like a warm bath, the view from the Pergola restaurant over the sea as you eat a light lunch cooked on the barbeque, it's the friendliness and efficiency of the staff that makes this holiday great. The garden tour on Wednesday by Dimitria and the Head Gardener - they are rightly proud of the olive trees, the cactus garden, the three types of palm tree, and the mature beauty of the rare sea daffodils on their private beach. The rooms are very comfortable and to wake up to the gentle sound of waves breaking on the beach, with the sun shining through the trees outside the sliding door, then sitting outside on the patio with a coffee, there's no better way to start the day. Cretan Malia Park is - thank goodness - far enough away from Malia town that it is a haven of peace and relaxation, but Malia Old Town is a 30 minute walk away and worth a visit for the traditional tavernas, as a change from the fantastic food served in the hotel restaurant. Don't expect to lose weight at Cretan Malia Park, the food is varied and superb.More

Excellent in all respects

I've just returned from my fifth stay at this hotel. Hotel, staff, gardens, beach, pools, entertainment, food, cats, everything really ... fantastic! I would recommend upgrading to a pool, garden or VIP room - well worth the extra £. The only negative was the Spa people who were a bit pushy when trying to sell massages, and then trying to up-sell more.More

Initial concerns faded away, this hotel is excellent.

I booked a week here through Thomson Holidays who advertise Cretan Malia Park as a 4 star plus hotel. Coupled with the overwhelmingly positive reviews on here, I arrived with high expectations. As the only person from my flight arriving at the hotel, check-in was quick and friendly. However I was told that the room I would be staying in the first night was an upgraded pool view room and that I would be moved to the single room that I'd booked the following day. They didn't explain the reasons for this but I can only assume their occupancy was high and there had been some mix up with the availability. Anyway they were apologetic and since I was travelling alone and it was just the first night I saw no reason to make a fuss and agreed to switch the next day. My case was moved for me and when I went to reception to switch keys they did give me a free lunch voucher to eat at the beach restaurant (which is discounted for all-inclusive guests, but not free). The first room was nice and indeed had a great view over the lazy river pool and towards the beach. The 4+* rating though is slightly misleading and I think you have to take in the "Greece factor" because although the room was clean and comfortable, it is by no means luxurious and guests who have stayed in 4 or 5 star hotels elsewhere might want to bear this in mind. The bathrooms for example are quite compact and a little basic, though the shower worked very well and it has everything you need. The second room was basically the same but sadly located right at the far edge of the hotel (furthest from the beach) and there was a bit of noise disturbance each morning around 8am as delivery lorries arrived bringing goods to the hotel - not a problem for me as I'm an early riser, but it could be an inconvenience to some. The food, again while plentiful at the buffet, is edible and tasty without quite achieving excellence - obviously the fresh bread, salads and fruit are the best of it, and the desserts were also very good, but I found a lot of the main dishes just lacked a little quality in some areas. For example I love moussaka and this was available a few times, but they insisted on putting some tomato sauce on the top (never had this before in all of Greece) and worst still the sauce tasted like it was from a tin. Underneath though was a perfectly good moussaka! You will not starve though and I've eaten far worse, but again 4*+ isn't quite where it's at. I should also mention that this hotel is mainly popular with German guests - I'd say it's about 80% German, 10% other European and only 10% British at the most. Not a problem for me and I thoroughly enjoyed the daily beach volleyball games despite being the only Brit in attendance but it's worth knowing. So why after a week there do I miss it so much? The staff really are amazing, every one of them is so friendly and helpful. The grounds are lovely and it managed to have a small hotel feel even though it's fairly large. The beach is nice and sunbeds always available, though the sea is rocky in places but there are areas where it's easy to swim. The animation team are great too, particularly Ludovico with the beach volleyball, great fun every day. There's just something very Greek about the place and it has a really relaxed and peaceful vibe so despite my initial concerns, as my last day approached I felt a genuine sadness to be leaving and now I'm home I already wish I was there again. I'm sure you'll feel the same.More

Willapp,

A wonderful two week summer holiday

My wife and I have tried lots of hotels in lots of different holiday destinations and yet we always seem to gravitate back to the Cretan Malia Park. This summer was the 5th time that we have chosen it for our main two week summer holiday. Some of the reasons are as follows:- the management and the staff are wonderful, always polite, cheerful and extremely helpful, The gardens around the hotel and the swimming pools are an absolute delight. A great asset is the availability of sun beds, so no matter what time you get up, or return from a trip away from the hotel, there are always lots vacant. The main restaurant has had a tasteful make over, since we were last there. We thought that the food, especially the breakfast, was very good. We do however agree with some of the comments made in other reviews in respect of the bathrooms. Also in our particular case, our air conditioning unit could not get the temperature down much below 24 degrees centigrade, but as we spend the majority of our time out of the room, on the hotel's beach, or in the beautiful gardens, these two minor issues do not effect our overall rating of this really lovely hotel. Our personal thanks go to the fantastic management team and the wonderful staff.More

ncs1,

Lovely stay at this hotel.

Just returned from a two week stay with my husband and a friend. Very impressed with the whole experience. Our friend had a nice single room and he said that I could not have picked a better hotel. All the staff and animation team were very friendly. The food and drinks were excellent. Reception staff very helpful also. The gardens are immaculate and well tended. Although the beach is a bit rocky you can get in the sea at one side. Will definitely be retuning. Thank you Maria Park.More
